It's always sad to see good footballers retire, particularly when they have had a pivotal role within the team. Experience is always an asset to a side and I think initially Brazil will miss this experience. But they have so many up and coming young players. There is no shortage of talent, so ultimately his position will be filled by someone who I'm sure will do a great job. He was a great player for Brazil but they know when their time is up and it is always best to go out with a good playing history and happy memories.

Yes. The best fullback in the world. He's not just a defender either, he can score goals with his POWERFUL(!) free kicks. I'm gonna miss seeing him in a Brasil jersey. As long as he's still playing for Real Madrid, i'm ok. But when he retires offically, that's gonna be sad. Let's wait and see who can take R.Carlos and Cafu's place. Cicinho is looking pretty good out there!!

He is retired from the National Team only. He is still playing for Real Madrid.
He retired too late. Brazil lost the WC because of him.
Write this name down: MARCELO.
He will be the starting Left-winger for Brazil in 2010.

not really, he was a great asset to the Brasilian team, but at the same time he isn't as good as he was, he's lost a step, and as far as finding a replacement, i think Dunga will find someone that plays that role accordingly, plus that's the thiing with sports you'll play for a while then it's time to move and it's time to go....
