A sports club charges an initiation fee and a monthly fee. At the end of 5 months, a member had paid a total of $170. At the end of 10 months, she had paid a total of $295.What is the initiation fee?

well let us see what we got here

first 5 months she paid 170
total 10 months paid 295

so the second 5 months cost her 295-170=125
now in the second 5 months doesnt have initiation fees coz you pay it only when you get in so every month costs 125/5 and that's equal to 25 $

now to get the initiation fees you get to subtract the cost of the first 5 months from the first 5 months which is 170-125= 45$

now the basic linear equation is y=mx+b

y here is the total payment
m here is the cost of every month
x here is the number of months
and b is the initiation fees

so you get the equation
y=25x+45

try to calculate the fist 5 months or the 10 months you will get the same results
