I will take a long time for all the water to evaporate, as the components are fairly well sealed, although not quite enough.

Yes I'd take it to the warranty center, but only after I had given it a bit of time to dry out, and used the blow dryer a few more times, only for a few minutes, on the access points. If I could, I might let it dry at least a week, maybe two.

If they have to service it , and refuse to warranty it, it should be fairly inexpensive to just open it and clean out the soap. and maybe change out some cheap part.

Good luck. Don't volunteer anything, but don't lie to them.

Do NOT try to take the iPod apart.

It is not meant to be user serviceable and the back is very difficult to remove without damaging the components inside.

The folder icon you are seeing means your iPod cannot detect the hard disk, which means it's in serious trouble.

Dont junk it; take it to an Apple Centre. If it's out of warranty, you'll pay for repairs, but that must be a whole lot cheaper than buying a new iPod!

From your description that you are seeing a folder with a exclamation sign, --- screen, battery and operating system are working -- that leaves the hard drive---I assumed that you have hard drive based because if it was ipod nano then water is unlikely to corrupt a folder in it---- hard drives if shaken or stirred can have a corruption or damage. --my conclusion is that your hard drive possibly in bad shape. Either dry few more days and check ---if still problem repair in the apple service centre---read the link below for others experience on ipod nano in a washing machine
