Depends on how large of a music collection you intend on having and whether or not you want to have your whole library on one device, or if you want to be able to rotate the songs from your computer library and have a fresh ipod lineup when you're in the mood to change it.

the ipod video is your largest ipod available up to 80GB (GigaBytes) which will hold over 20,000 songs or several movies, and tons of photos. This will also come with the largest price tag.

the ipod nano is the ideal portable music player/photo viewer it comes in a variety up to 8GB and are relatively smaller than the ipod video. Differences between the two include; the nano has NO video capability and also the nano has a smaller screen and drive (space to save music). the nano is also available in numerous colors. check www.apple.com/ipodnano to see colors/descriptions.

the economic choice would be purchasing an ipod shuffle, this device contains no screen, so it cannot display pictures, comes in a 1GB capacity (about 250 songs, so rotation would be necessary) but it also comes with the smallest price tag of $79 dollars, it has also been designed with a spring loaded clip to hold onto your pocket, bookbag, whatever is necessary.

if you are on a budget i would reccommend the nano or the shuffle, the ipod video starts at $249.

good luck and whichever decision you make, i'm sure she will appreciate it!

I-pod has videos, games, pod-casts, songs, etc etc....nanos just got songs and pod-casts and the shuffles...well lets not go there....there is not even a screen...i mean come on... but anyways! its really just what you want, if you go to the apple.com/ipod theres a link that has all the specs at the top i think so you can check that out has liek battery life, how much it holds, what it can do ect ect
