Sun-sneezing is only common in about 25% of the population. There isn't a finite answer as to why it happens, but the best guess is that the impulse from your optic nerve [the sun hitting your eye] crosses over in your brain and follows the nerve pathway that causes the sneezing reflex. Usually, this reflex is triggered by an irritation in your nose, but in the case of sun-sneezers, the "eye" input jumps over onto the "nose" input path and creates the sneeze.
Make sense?

When I get a poke in the forehead it also sometimes makes me sneeze. I know that your body sense of touch is mapped out in your brain. I would guess that the sun irritates the eyes and any irritation near your sinuses from forehead to mouth, might be close enough in your brain to stimulate a sneasing response. I too have had the bright light make me sneeze and that is what I thought it might be.

I would agree with the theory about that happening in 25% of the population, because when you tell people about using "bright light" to help the sneeze along, 75% of them will look at you like you are crazy.

Well I`ve never heard that before, and the sun, I think if I even tried to look at it, not only would my sneeze go away, I think my sight will go away as well.

my cousin sneezes in threes, yet i do not in reality that's uncommon that I sneeze two times in a row. per chance because your lung means isn't large sufficient to bathe the airborne dirt and dirt out of your nostril attempt taking a real deep breath previous to you sneeze and once you do truly sneeze confusing.

not at a bright light, but at the sun... it has nothing to do with the sun or anything but since you're outside and lifting your nose right into the air, allergy thingies fill up your nose, causing you to sneeze. try holding your nose and look at the sun. i think it's yellow.

It makes your eyes tear, which makes your nose run. Runny noses have to sneeze. If you were about to sneeze anyway, then that would definitely add to the urge.

i've never tried that , but i will next time. I usually just flail my arms in the air, to help me get out the sneeze. Somehow it seems to help me sneeze.
