It's actually a requirement. There are certain rules you have to
follow regarding your attire. Audience members receive their
tickets in advance and are briefed on what they can and can not
wear, business professional is the standard. Realistically if you
knew you were going to be on t.v. wouldn't you want to look
absolutely fabulous?

If you were going on Oprah, would you not want to look nice? It has long been known that many of Oprah's audience members are friends or family members of the production crew, and the remaining audience members are chosen in ticket raffles long before the show airs. The studio lighting on Oprah's set is actually quite innovative in that it makes Oprah look her absolute best, and I imagine that carries over to her audience as well. The camera pans on the portions of the audience the cameraman and/or producers choose, so you never know if they might be biased towards the attractive people or not.

Oprah personally buys the outfits, and gives everyone in the audience a make over BEFORE the show starts. Those that don't do well with the make over sit in the way, way back. Those that look best get to sit in the front.

I have always wondered that too. What do they have a dress code for the audience? Are these audience member so enamored with Oprah that they go to salons and wardrobe consultants before going to the show? I guess when you attend the church of Oprah, you better not show up shabby.

because they get tickets well in advance, and I'm sure they want to look nice, so its why I believe they look like a nice audience. They just don't pick anyone off the street like Jerry Springer.
