John Mason got his education at Oxford College in England. In 1622 John was declared founder of New Hampshire. The King granted him a lot of land. John was in congress in 1629. John was governor from 1630 -1631.

Since Mason founded New Hampshire, the new land, he was allowed to name it New Hampshire. There was already a Hampshire in England. So he named this New Hampshire.

John spent time, money, energy and most of his life exploring New England, but never visited Strawberry Bank. You would think he would because it was one of Hew Hampshire's most famous places. He was the first person to show the new settlers the coast of the new land.

He died in 1635.

I enjoyed doing this project because I always wanted to learn more about New England and John Mason. I think he was a great man, a smart man and a man to look at and be proud of.
