Imagine if there weren't any police.....you think crime is bad now! Everyone would be carrying a gun...that's scarey. Or go visit one of the countries that don't have any and are constantly at war. I wish there were a lot more in every city, but budget cuts cause many cities to be understaffed. I appreciate every police out there. They are way under paid....considering their lives are always in danger. I was married to policeman for a few years. I can tell you it's a very stressfull & low pay job. Your heart has to be really into it to work under those conditions. I praise each one.
True, there are bad cops out there. But that is true for any occupation these days. There are bad teachers, preachers, doctors, nurses, cashiers, babysitters, auto repairman, managers, waitresses, etc.
One day in your lifetime you will have to eat your words, because there is a 99% chance that you will need a policeman or have to call 911 for an emergency.
I hope your statement above hasn't jinxed you, and you end up with a bad cop responding to your emergency. More than likely tho, he will be a good policeman & you will have a change of heart.

Some cops? For sure. Others do their jobs well, and I'm rather grateful that we have them.
Was I irked to get a ticket I feel I only got /bc a cop had a bad day? Yes. But on the other hand, I've been glad to have cops around once in a while.
Anarchy is always temporary, and our system is much better than one likely to rise from anarchy. What use would laws be without enforcers?

I think it depends on where you live. It sounds like the police force where you live gets no respect - so that's exactly what they give back. Bad mouthing them is not going to help - if you have a legitimate complaint why don't you make it to a member of an appropriate government body and help instigate some change. In Australia that would be your local ombudsman's office.

I remember a time when cops were cops paid for by the people. They weren't all special or different. They just got paid to protect people. We should have the outlaw rules go on again. With bounty hunters that don't just try and catch people who skip on bail.
Thats weak.
We should have bounty hunters who go after schizophrenic psychopaths bent on eating children. Thats what we should have.
Not bounty hunters catching a stoner who decided not to show up to court.

Having lived and worked with cops (and carrying a badge myself) I have to tell you my first reaction is: hope you don't need one of us. Now, my true feeling on this is that budget cuts, low pay, and job cuts have made it impossible to do the job the public expects. I know many, many cops (from federal to local) and I have only found a miniscule amount to be a waste of money. Please re-think this attitude. To serve and protect means not always having a choice in which call is responded to. If you, your wife, mother, child was being raped and the call came in at the same time to respond to a robbery that was all ready over, which would you want the police to respond to? I know, we all spout off. God bless our men and women in blue, brown, and black. They walk where the rest of society fears to step.

A few are I'm sure, primarily speaking no. But stereotyping, like what you're doing, is totally worthless.

So teachers and firefighters must also be borderline worthless?
Come on man...there are people out there serving the community for low pay. Help them out by giving them thanks.
