A staph infection is often contracted at hospitals. It's a bacterial infection that often begins where there is a wound, and can go on to cause problems both with the wound, and by causing illness. Staph is the leading cause of complications and death in hospitals today. It can be treated with antibiotics, but sometimes must actually be cut out of a wound.
