I don't think he gets enough credit. The guy is a future hall of famers. So far he has helped the Yankees win 6 pennants and 4 world championships. Before he is done he will join the 3000 hit club and no doubt be on a few more world series winners. Definitely not overrated.

While Derek Jeter isn't the best defensive shortstop in Baseball, he makes the plays. He has the intangible trait of knowing how to win. He makes really tough plays when it counts. He comes through with the clutch RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. He hits for average, steals bases and drives runs in. Mr. Jeter is not overrated at all. He is an Most Valuable Player in my book.

Let me see a career 300 hitter, with over 2000 hits, 800 RBI, 200 stolen bases a 975 fielding percentage someone who has lead his team to the world series 6 times to the playoff 11 who has been a started for the Yankees the past 11 seasons. Hell it shouldn’t matter what he makes if he was one your team and you made the playoffs ever year he’s been on the field would you say he is over rated. Hell, I think his the best player on the field at any given time. You may think he’s over paid but remember this he has brought the Yankees to the playoffs every year he has played, that would be like saying that your father is over paid because he brings a bonus at the end of the week. He gets paid what the market dictates and what the owners think he is work if the Yankees think he’s worth 18 million I would happen to think that he is being underpaid (remember 11 seasons 11 times to the playoffs)

Don't get me wrong, he is an excellent ballplayer-- All-Star, MVP candidate and all that. With that in mind, anyone (even Babe Ruth or Willie Mays) would be overrated with the amount of hype that Jeter gets. If he were an average-looking guy playing for Milwaukee or San Diego, nobody would pay attention to him.

Heck no, to be the Captain and the emotional leader of a bunch of guys who would want to be THE MAN on any other team. Think intanglaby(outside the numbers). He gets everybody's head in the game. He's the face of New York. Very few current players could handle the pressure in the big apple and to be the face of a storied franchise as the Yankees thats a lot to put on a man's shoulders but you've never seen him buckle

For sure, but so are a lot of other sports stars.
I think if he wasn't so cute he wouldn't get all the attention. Or if he didn't play for New York. Or he didn't bask in his "good guy" reputation.
The captain thing is just ridiculous. If he wants to be a captain, he should play hockey.

winners win and he wins... trent dilfer won a super bowl with the ravens and he was terrible but marino and manning have a total of zero rings and 10 times the talent of dilfer... because he competes and you're measured by whether or not he wins... he isnt overrated, he also does his job under the most pressure of any shortstop in MLB

Good question and I say he is not overrated. i watched him play live against my Indians and though he is awesome he is not $18 million better than our Indians shortstop. maybe 10% better, but not 700 %.
