I like the current system. There is a luxury tax. This means that if Steinbrenner wants to spend $200 million a year then let him. He'll just have to pay that much more for the other teams to share. Having a cap would be bad for MLB. Free agency is already terrible and this would make things worse.

No to a salary cap and yes to the current luxury tax.

No. The only people who want a salary cap is the fans of the teams that stink. You can buy all the players you want but they need to work together IE Yankees the year the Red Sox won it all. I don't want a salary cap and l am a Reds fan.

There should be one, as well as revenue sharing. Otherwise, the small market teams are never going to be able to compete, and unless you want baseball only to be played in the big cities that have the TV audience base that can support $95-125M payrolls, there needs to be some way to even out the competition.

Funny, but it seems to work great in the NFL, with a cap and revenue sharing, where it's not who can buy the best players. And if there's any league that any other league wants to model itself after, it should be the NFL.

George Steinbrenner has already stated he would pay the fines and not limit his players salaries. It won't work. Isn't amazing how the highest paid teams are always on top? Yankees blow everyone away salary wise but they haven't been No 1 for a while. Go small market teams!!

It would be more fair to have one though.

The only way you get a salary cap in baseball is when that evil monster (steinbrenner) leaves the game for good.

Most definately! ....and it should be much lower than what is being paid these days. In fact, ALL professional players in ALL sports are overpaid!! Salaries are way out of line and no-one is worth the money that is being paid now, just to "play a game" !
It is pretty sad when it takes about a weeks wages for a hard working family man or woman to take their family to see a game.

There should have been one a long time ago. The salaries are getting worse than ridiculous.

I think the caps they have with the logos and the broad brims are just fine ;-)
