He was tall and dressed in black Maid Marion but he didn't say anything. Just did some heavy breathing.

Dave Prowse played the role of Darth Vader in the Episode 4. He didn't do the talking as the mask was unsuitable for that. It might be possible that you saw him. He lives in Croydon. Quite a nice bloke really. This may sound a bit odd, but after playing the role of Darth Vader, he suffered serious injuries in real life, just like the story. It was a gym accident though, a rack full of barbells fell on him. His respiratory system, however is not affected, and he doesn't talk or breathe like Darth Vader.

It sounds unlikely.. Dave Prowse played the physical Darth Vader, while the voice was done by James Earl Jones...
..Prowse has a Somerset accent and didn't do the breathing either.. so it was probably someone with a good outfit..
I'm sure that there were many people employed to do PR for the film... how many personal appearances do you think people can manage? I'm pretty sure it's a decent size of Woolworths, but I think you were conned by some kind of Jedi Mind Trick.

It might have been DLT (Dave Lee Travis) a popular DJ in the 80's who used to dress up as Darth Vader on gigs away from the BBC
