You are correct. A president can only serve two four year terms during the course of their lifetime and a maximum of 10 years in office (I believe it is). That is, if a president dies in office, is impeached or resigns, he can finish out that president's term if it's under two years, and still be able to run two more terms.

Bush has already told America that he would like to remain as president until his death, and he is hoping that if he will keep wars going on and on and on, that the American people would change that law under the guise that it is difficult for a new president to step in and take over a war that the past president started.

Right now, as the law stands he can only serve 2 terms. He is supposed to be out of office in 2008, however there was a time when there were no term limits, but because Franklin Delano Roosevelt was voted in for 4 terms the Republicans had coronary fits, and insisted on bringing in the term-limit law.

Since then every Republican that gets in says they would like to change that law back. So far, they haven't been successful.

The next election is in 2008, but his term doesn't end til January 20, 2009. Only 851 days, 11 hours and 35 minutes until the nightmare ends.

Yes yes out in 2008 Thank the stars above. It cant be to soon for me. I really dont know what the heck this country was thinking when they voted him in a second time. it boggles my mind! Didn't vote for him either time. Yes only 2 terms or if they are replacing a president they get two additional terms after the term that they replaced the president in. They did this after FDR won 4 consecutive terms. They didn't want it to be like a dictatorship. Personally I always didn't like that law but at this time I'm glad its there.

Yes, 2 terms so he's out in 2008. Just have to see who the next candidates are. There are rumors his brother, Jeb Bush, will run for president.

Who knows? Frankly I can't stand George Bush but all my country allows me to do is insult, complain, whine, and vote.

Heh :-)

(and yes, next election in 2008... I'm not gonna say I hope a democrat wins... I want hte best candidate to win, one htat doesn't support Bush preferably.)

Can't a president claim emergency power during wartime and remain in office til its over? I keep thinking that we had a president do that once before in history. Anyone know this answer?
