It depends on what you are using it for but 6mbps is great for residential I am on cable and I ony get 3 mbps

That speed would probably be ok for playing one game at a time but if you think you'll be playing a PC game online at the same time as your brother is using Xbox Live then you'll probably need a faster connection. This will depend on the games though and how much network traffic they generate. Those prices also seem very expensive for such a slow connection. I have to admit I'm from UK so I don't know what prices are like in the US but it would be a total rip off here.

how fast is fast???
This is fast. And pretty common and very, very difficult to get faster for a reasonable cost.
And it will alow fine surfing, not bad downloading, and if you have at least 100kb up besides the 6M down you can have good Voip phone like vonage.
Surfing the web is actually cpu related these days .. try to use something with 700mhz or better.
