As a whole, when you look at the modern day woman, either the girl next door, or the glossy celebrities, do you see a difference in her and the modern day woman of the 80's, 70's, 60's? 50's? etc.
All of these women fought for us to be seen as equal. To not be objects or baby machines. To be able to pursue any career, dream, pasttime, hobby we want. When I look at women today, I see a bunch of girls. Silly girls. Men don't have to objectify women, women do it to themselves now. Am I alone in my sadness towards the loss of the strong woman? Am I alone in mourning the true women's movement? Not the femi-nazi's, they are a different bunch. The women who truly just wanted the same rights as the men. No special treatment, just equality.

Let me add this on...
I was around during the womens movement. I know there are strong women out there today, and I sure as hell don't get my facts or opinions from tv. It is the age group 25 and under that worries me. The Girls Gone Wild generation. The binge drinking generation. The sex bracelet generation. The girls who when polled see oral sex the same as a kiss goodnight. That is not sexual freedom. That is being a garbage can.

Look, in every society women were kind of exploited during previous days but now they have been given freedom but most of them are simply misusing it. I hate those women who use themselves as a commodity and give stupid explanation for it. A women has her own stature which men can never compete with and instead of realising this fact women are trying to equalise themselves with the men that if they can have free sex why can't we, if they can drink or smoke than why can't we. If these types of equality women wants than I would prefer to live in the past age where this much dirt in the society was not there. Today women are simply degrading themselves and nothing at all. If you have to do something than why don't you try to become Mother Teresa or Indira Gandhi or Margret Thacher.
And I am not agree with you baby machine theory. I think God has bestowed us with the gift of motherhood. I think no happiness can compete with the happiness of the mother.

I really understand where you're coming from. It is hard to find a woman that exemplifies what the Womens' Rights Movement was truly about. It seems as if there are two extremes of women--the "stupid girls" or, as you stated, the "'fem nazis'". I hate watching most of the shows on TV, especially MTV, because most of the women perpetuate stereotypical female behavior (i.e. "the b*tch", "the slut", "the narcissist", etc.). Even women that seem to have it together do things that set women back a few decades like take care of a mooching man.
I try not to be too down on today's woman though. There are some strong women out there; they just tend to get overshadowed by the "silly girls".

I see silly girls too, and I don't like it. But I also dislike the "strong woman" type for the same reason that I dislike the "strong man" type. You are not alone in mourning the womans movment, but woman have won and they are treated as equals for the most part now. they aren't always, but men are not always treated as equals either so it balances out. Woman should know they don't need to be strong and if they are then they isolate themselves from the world, but they shouldn't be the silly kind either because that's just ignorant. Here is a good place to apply my dad's philosofy on life, "balance".
As for the abortion issue that someone commented on. Woman do have complete control of their bodies. They chose to do the act that got them pregnant and if they want a chalenge and responsibilty as any real "strong woman" does then they need to accept the consequences of their actions. if you can't handle that then don't participate in these activities. This goes for men too. If you get the woman pregnat you're responsible for her and the baby until the day you day.

What I have noticed in the past years and now in the present year, is that a lot of the women in this world expects to be equal with the abilities of what men, are able to do! But they also want to be pampered and not have to face the true responsibilities that is always required on the job!!!!! And the women who is that way, is being selfish, inconsiderate, obnoxious, and self centered! They seem to think that they can live their lives both ways, and that people will look at them as a spectacular woman! But it does not work that way! When you show yourself and others that you are a very independent woman, and that you are willing & able to accomplish the same task that men are, and then when you are in the middle of doing a manly task, and you begin to start showing your femine, & dependant side on the job, (like construction or some type of job that is dirty & nasty)! And you begin acting all prissy & disgusted, because you are a woman, and you are getting filthy doing that job, and you would like it if a man would take your place and finish the job! That will only show yourself & others that you are not willing or able to do the job! In this life we can not have our cake and eat it too! There is, and will always be consequences that we will have to take,& accept in liife!!!!
Good Luck!!!!!

I would have to say that women have not changed much overtime. Female celebrities don't help or show how women have changed, mainly because theire job is to look pretty and be eye candy. They don't have much of a choice to be themselves, as the industry they work in shun ugly and fat women, men too. Those kind of people are just not very camera friendly, though some people are lucky enough to be famous. It is true that women have become more aware of themselves and increased their need to be independent and to be treated equally. However, the majority of women lack the strength and will to stand up in a society where men are the "superior" ones. I think that there are plenty of men who are willing and are treating women equally, you just have to be lucky enough to find one. The men in power already pretty much got into wealth and success by exploiting their peers and workers, and they do so because they are relentless and not caring for others feeling. By doing so, those wealthy live by a survival of the fittest ideology, and to succeed is to in turn hire people who will become an asset to their company. Women unfortunately, lack the assertiveness and ruthlessness of most men, thus are placed into inferior jobs. On a more critical note, most women, or feminists today only exercise their "female power" by using and hiding behind the law, especially in cases like sexual harassment lawsuits. If women really wanted to be treated equal, then they should not rely solely on the law to solve thier problems, it actually worsens the situation between men and women, though I am not saying that sexual harassment is a good thing.

That what is wrong with the world today, the women is trying to take control over the man. Women liberation I never went for it. Now a woman cannot do all the things a man can do and futhermore God made man head over a woman and a woman only a helpmate. I believe that when the initiation came into effect that when the world got out of control. One example is this, men today feel inferior a woman making more money than some of them do. It seems that a woman makes more money she then becomes the head. I believe the system needs to reverse some things. No women should not equal to men.

I think these "silly girls" don't have a strong mother figure in their lives. No ones telling them that they are more than just a body and face.No ones telling these girls to stand up and BE somebody.I strive to teach my daughter to be her own person, don't follow these PARIS wannabe's who only care how much that boy really likes them, or if their clothes are cool. All ya gotta do is listen to their music to understand why they parade themselves as a sexual favor.Everythings about sex and for some reason they believe it will make them happy, but WE know the truth.

As a child of the 50's, I saw a change in attitude in all of us, and we're all still changing. Don't be so quick to judge, everyone who wants to stay relatively sane needs plateau-time. They'll get serious again when they have time to step back and get the overall picture instead of the microcosm they intimate with. My mother campaigned for equal pay in the 40's and early 50's. She got it at her workplace, then left and started her own business. It died when she did, but more women started opening their own businesses since, so her legacy lives on. There are to many issues for one person to handle them all, so let your young men and women pick theirs, support their efforts to improve their world, and let them take a breather when they want or need to. It'll be their world sooner or later anyway.

Pardon me, but women ARE baby machines...don't forget Biology 101. And men are money machines. Why sugar coat biology and economics...it's possible and necessary to respect and revere these natural roles.
The women's movement was the most malignant trend in America's history. Because of it we now have an entire baby boom generation of conceited, self-aborbed, belligerent, career-obsessed, man-hating, self-hating desolate castrating bitches. No wonder the divorce rate is so high! And I am even less impressed with the girly men who let this happen, myself included. I once supported the women's movement! BLECCH!
The result is today's young women are so brainwashed with the "gotta be a man" programming garbage from the women's movement they are rebelling in droves...thank God....but to what? The values in our society are those of Hollywood- the least common denominator. There's little hope for them. As for as their young ritalin-numbed male counterparts p*ssy whipped by the women's movement into feminized metrosexual robots I am more pessimistic. The end of America...brought to you by Betty Friedan and Jane Fonda.
Enough.

Unfortunately women/girls nowadays think that they have to act ditzy, weak, and down right dumb to get a man in there lives. They should be more confident in who they are and what they have accomplished in life instead. So, no, your not alone in wondering where the strong women are.
