I believe that it should be legal. The government not allowing people who love each-other get married is ridiculous. Most of the people who don't want it base their opinions on religion. The problem with that is that we have separation of church and state. You have no right to force your opinions or religious views on others with laws outlawing something that is wrong in the bible. That is why it's not illegal in America for someone to eat shellfish, even though in Leviticus it is listed as a sin punishable with hell.

I think it is just like racism was back in the 50's. Granted, we still have racism, but I view gay people as the new group of people being persecuted by the bible thumping people who can't think for themselves.

What is your opinion?

Oh, by the way, the is NO sanctity of marriage. If there was people wouldn't be getting divorces like they were in short supply.

Sorry to disappoint but you took the words right out of my mouth, especially with the whole sanctity of marriage thing and divorce....I whole-heartily agree....I really do not care if it's 2 women, 2 men, or a man and a woman, as long as they are in love.
Anyway, how much worse a rep. could marriage get in the day and age of "drive-thru" weddings! Oh Yeah, that's worth holding on to huh???? Please.

Well the Supreme Court has held through several decisions that marriage is a fundamental right. On that basis, they moved forward and allowed such things as birth control sales, advertising for birth control and eventually abortion. To reverse this decision actually would negate the legal arguments allowing us to have privacy in our bedrooms, something that allows to have sex in other ways besides missionary position and for the purpose of procreation. I think if people were to examine what exactly a stance against gay marriage means in terms of their other legal rights, they would pretty much shift to a 'gay marriage is OK' stance, and adopt the NIMBY approach, ostracizing anyone engaging in gay marriage (for the most part, keep in mind a majority of America opposes gay marriage). I don't think the gay community would really mind getting the right at this cost since they pretty much face this ostracism now anyway.

Marriage was made for man and a woman by God. Not by your Uncle Sam. Why do gays need a piece of paper? If you "love" each other, fine live together. there is no current law against it. I don't know if any States still have sodomy laws on the books.
And it is not Racism unless Homosexuals are a Race all of their own.

And being you have no idea what the hell your talking about trying to bring Scripture into it with the Shellfish. And yes, I am aware of clean and unclean meats. Are you an Israelite? It refers to them.
Apparently you have some of that Self-thinking disability

First of all, I am gay. I do want for the government to give me equality.

But ......... I totally disagree with you about the Constitution. Seperation of church and state is one thing. Seperation of law from morality is not something our Founding Fathers ever said. There is biblical scripture which says "Thou shalt not kill;" "Thou shalt not steal;" and "Thou shalt not bare false witness;" and all of these moral values have been and still are translated into American laws. The fact that the shellfish clause from the book of Leviticus has not been translated into an American law does not mean that our society has not ever and was never supposed to translate any moral values found in the Bible into laws governing our society. This society used to ban "sodomy." Every single state in the country banned "sodomy," at one point in the past. States can choose to ban "sodomy" if they want or they can choose not to ban "sodomy." And they can choose to ban same-sex marriage if they want, and they can choose to legalize if they want. The Constitution says nothing at all about the topic. You say, "You have no right to force your opinions ... on others with laws ...." All laws do that, my friend. All laws do that. Prove that they don't.

Like racism in the 50's? You are, first of all, comparing race to sexual orientation. Everyone knows that race is genetic. How many people "know" that sexual orientation is genetic? You are trying to imply that all bigotry is the same: all people who oppose homosexuality are "bible thumping people who can't think for themselves." As Justice Scalia said, that kind of remark is "nothing short of insulting."

To repeat, I am gay. But I don't like having condescending, insulting, knee-jerk liberals like you as allies.

Well now we all know where you stand !
Gay MARRIAGE in my opinion should not be made law. Gay union ok but not marriage. Marriage is a word used to describe the joining of a male and a female.

Marriage is also a prerequisite in my opinion for being able to adopt children. You speak about forcing religious laws on people, that I agree is wrong, but back to gay unions. Homosexual unions will lead to people wanting to adopt and society is not 100% ready for 2 dads or 2 moms and therefore the children will be ostracized and they are the innocent victims. Hell people have just begun to accept interracial marriage we have a long way to go.

There IS actually a Sanctity of Marriage and it was established by the Catholic Church in the 12th century between a man and a women for their family. It serves no purpose for gays.

Some sort of civil unions would be good so they can file taxes together as a couple.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Marriage, at least as far as the law is concerned, is simply entering in to a contract that defines the rights of the person's involved in regard to property, children, benefits, divorce, etc. If some feel there is a religious componenet to marriage then their churches can decide whether or not they wish to allow people to marry in their faith. There are lots of heterosexual couples who marry in civil ceremonies without any mention of God. Allow homosexuals to marry so they can gain the same property rights as others. The religious debate can be had outside the arena of law & government, as it should be.

What's remarkable about the conservative and religious responce to gay marriage is that they are rejecting people who wish to embrace a social construct that they value deeply. One that centers on traditional conservative and religious values like monagamy, fidelity, family etc. Why exclude folks who want to celebrate the same basic values that you already hold dear?

My Oppinion is to let them have Civil Unions, all they want are the same benifets as strait couples. I mean really, whats the big deal, I'm Christrian too, but quite frankly, If Adam and Eve were strait, why are there Gays? Give me a secular reason.

however...
Don't call it a Marriage.

oh and Cameron D
Our Constitution is based on the secular ideas of Locke. Although our forefathers were christrian, it doesn't make our constitution based on christian values. Your wrong.

No, but there is definitely a connotation of marriage as a union of complimentary parts. I can see how people wouldn't want to call a gay union "marriage".

But why stop them from doing it? Call it something else.

I don't see the point of suppressing homosexuality. What if the woman of your (general "you") dreams is whisked away by a gay man, who is in the closet because you hate on them so much?

What you don't ralize attched to the gay marriage law is the hate law and the child protection law which doesn't protect kids will be passed with it. Now answer me this- two guys do to each other in a slightly different technique what they would do to a woman, and in many of the lesbo relationship they use devices to simulate a man- why not just stick to the opposite sex!!!!!

Fine, if you don't believe that the wages of sin is death, that's your problem, but don't expect to make it to Heaven. God's words, not mine. You don't have to believe me if you absolutely don't want to, but by the time you find out the hard way, it will be too late to do anything about it. It's not opinioin, it's biblical fact, and you can argue against it all you want, but it will still be just as true.
