i have an idea for a new item to be put on the open market but want to keep it to my self until i get a patient on it.
don't want nobody to steal it and run. need patient

That's patent. Try the US Patent Office. I think you pay them some money and the patent is good for several decades.

Takes a long time, costs a lot of money so don't think it is going to happen over night.

Best tip, if you talk to anyone about it get them to sign a confidentiality agreement first then if they do try to steal it you will have a claim against them at law. If they won't sign, don't tell them anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! V E R Y I M P O R T A N T

You have to submit it to the Patent Office in washington DC
