As a whole, when you look at the modern day woman, either the girl next door, or the glossy celebrities, do you see a difference in her and the modern day woman of the 80's, 70's, 60's? 50's? etc.
All of these women fought for us to be seen as equal. To not be objects or baby machines. To be able to pursue any career, dream, pasttime, hobby we want. When I look at women today, I see a bunch of girls. Silly girls. Men don't have to objectify women, women do it to themselves now. Am I alone in my sadness towards the loss of the strong woman? Am I alone in mourning the true women's movement? Not the femi-nazi's, they are a different bunch. The women who truly just wanted the same rights as the men. No special treatment, just equality.

Let me add this on...
I was around during the womens movement. I know there are strong women out there today. It is the age group 25 and under that worries me. The Girls Gone Wild generation. The binge drinking generation. The sex bracelet generation. The girls who when polled see oral sex the same as a kiss goodnight. That is not sexual freedom. That is being a garbage can.

How does one get into a psychological state? It is all based on the power of their attention and focus. Women have been marketed as solely a sexual nature. There has been a slow, underhanded, degrading of women in media and print. So, when young women are shown this 1000 times a day no wonder their focus turns them from the strong accomplishments and character of women throughtout history to being (for lack of a better term) a dumb slut. Then sold on that idea that it is good and will get her places. As a whole I think that the intelligent modern day woman is having a tougher fight then the women of the past due to the "information age" or the age of impulse.
As a man, sad to say, that this degrdation attitude toward women is growing based on these same inputs of visual information. I hear men speak solely on degrading terms...not all...but most. The womens movement has to step up strongly to effect any long term change in attitudes. Hard to do when we live in a world that has replaced truth with spin.

You are correct that there are a whole bunch of silly women, but I gurantee that there were even more silly women around the major movement times as well. History doesn't list all the people not invovled directly to anything, mostly the ones who just sit on the sidelines, giggle, and want to just live without conflict.

However, I feel strongly that the women have just about as much equality they can strive for at the moment, if not more so than their fair share, and yes, I am a woman and no, I'm not just thinking about feminazis. That's an entirely different subject though, so I'll shut my yap now.

Ahhhhh....but herein lies the irony. Who fought for this generation of
women to have the right to be silly, garbage cans? Once, even as
late as only 5 decades ago, a woman's body was considered
sacred. It was never to be flaunted to any man other than her
husband. Feminists saw this as an oppression. A method of men
used to control and encage women. Thus, they encourage women's sexual boldness. They began encouraging women to show more skin, and have all the sexual fun they desired. The more skin women showed, the more sexuality women exposed, the more they thought they were spitting men. Now, that's all girls want. Does that make them anti-feminism, or merely a product of feminism?

In our modern day we have everything at our fingertips that we could possibly want. In a way, there's not so much a motivation to fight. It's like, party time! But...look at the Bible. Adam and Eve took from the tree and look what happened. The fall of man. I think that the more material the world gets and the more options and freedoms we're given, the more opportunities for sin and stupidness. I don't know if that answers your question, but that's what it made me think.

But, there are some strong women out there fighting for causes. Even if you can't see that many because all the silly girls of the world are in our faces.

I think it is all just a growing stage.....when they get older they will smooth out.
I know a few of the type you speak of...but they did turn out stronger mainly because they have been allowed to be themselves and were not restrained with old way of thinking a woman had to be....even Feminist have created a model that women were to follow.....the youth of today does not want to follow the rules of yester year instead they are redefining the term as our generation did for the past generation.

Feminism is something that is like a living thing it constantly grows and forces a definition each few generations.

I was 12 when my sisters burned their bras...I remember it vividly. what strange and wonderful times the twentieth century has brought. it will be interesting to see what the next 40 years will bring.

I completely agree with you, for whatever reason women have chosen to objectify themselves, and I just don't understand these people. In the last couple of years especially whever I turn on the televison there is some stupid girl half naked dancing next to a rapper, that's all they aspire to be and I think that's really sad.
Everytime I go shopping all I see are young girls wearing next to nothing and giggling like they have no brains just to get the attention of some boy. They seem to think that this is the only way a boy will like them. Society is so backwards these days I've given up trying to understand other people.

I applaud the "garbage can" remark !!

I have sooooo many males in my life that I rarely get to see a strong woman. I too hope they are out there.

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the "girls gone wild" thing. I do see that in our highschools, shopping centers & on the internet... I hope these young gals can turn it all around and become strong, financially independant, leaders in their communities. It is obvious that they lack real mentors in their lives. I am hpefully assuming that with age they will make a change for the better !

I can see what your saying.... I see that too. But I also think that this is probably the first time in recent history that women have been free to express themselves physically and openly without societal restraints.

What young women should learn now is to develop their own personal standards and self-imposed restraints for the sake of respectability and class. Is that the next step in Woman's development?

More mature women could start taking up the torch and setting an example for the younger generation of what a demure, sophisticated, graceful yet strong woman is. Too many mature women, especially the ones in show-biz, are still trying to squeeze into that 'ageless' stereotype. Perhaps the modern mature woman in our society needs to set the bar and challenge younger women to realign their perspectives on life.

The other thing that also grates on my nerves about the younger generation of women (and I'm not much older), but they enjoy arguing the toss with men over gender differences. Surely that constant berating of men increases the chasm and makes them resentful. Young women should know that the empowerment of women is only cheapened by redundant arguments. Their position in modern society should be quietly and confidently upheld with a strong work ethic, fairness and co-operation wherever they work.

I'm with you on your last statement about no special treatment, just equality. We need to stop highlighting the differences between men and women at every opportunity, and just get on with enjoying the equality that is available. Make a success of ourselves, that statement will have the most impact.

I agree totally, however, who is raising these young women is the question. They are getting these thoughts and ideas from somewhere. Some mother or father is not doing their job to raise strong minded females. It is very sad what is going on in today's society with young females. We are allowing our children to be raised by the television and mother's and father's are not spending time teaching their daughters moral values and the importance of self respect. Not all females have this problem, we only hear and see the weak, the strong ones are going about their business getting an education and doing the right thing.

I agree with you. Although the girls who are going out there to either strip or wear next to nothing or nothing in those mens magazines are getting a lot of money for what they are doing. They are flipping it around and they are the one's with the power. They have found away to make the sexism and objectifiying work to thier advantage. I say high fives to them. It's the paris hilton's and girls who are getting rich through being lucky enough to be born with riches and power who are the one's setting us back 50years by showing that it's cool to be stupid and not have to work. They are bad role models and the worst part is they could have so easily used thier status to better the world. I think these women who are a minority make thier lives seem so glamorous that young girls are easily influenced. Truth is though if there wasn't stupid women like them then the great stong smart women would have nothing to be compared to and nothing to fight for... Maybe... Great question!
