thanks flower I agree with you totally.
And they don't judge anyone else but when we walk down the street people always stare. Like one time someone threw a big bucket of ice water on our heads and called us freaks and ran off. And we're proud to be weird and even if we where at least we don't judge too quickly

Being goth is cool. people judge him that way because i think they need to get real. i mean why do they care so much about him? just ignore the people who are low lives and can't get with a person who they like for who they are. You go girl! Stand up tall show those low lives what you are made of.

Gosh, that's a tough one.

If you saw a man in a sailor's uniform, would you assume he was in the Navy? If you saw an older man in a blue uniform with four silver stripes around his cuff and wings on his chest, at an airport, would you assume he was a pilot? If you saw a bronze-skinned man with a hooked nose and an eagle feather war bonnet, would you assume he was an Indian?

People judge. They always have, always will. When I was a kid, in 1966, if a boy's hair was long enough to touch his collar, everyone assumed he was a hippie who smoked dope, believed in free love and was at least left-leaning, if not a communist.

Even today you can find people who assume Irish drink too much, Chinese are good at math, Mexicans are lazy, Africans are lazy, poor white people are lazy, people on welfare are lazy, (lots of that laziness going around) Arabs are sneaky, Scots are thrifty, etc. etc. etc. Some are, some aren't.

Why should people make an exception for Goths?

If you stand under a shower, you will get wet. If you are a goth, or a punk rocker, or a preppy or any of six dozen teen sub-cultures, people will judge you before they meet you. That is what prejudice means. If you want to stay dry, don't stand under the shower. If you don't want to be judged, don't wear the uniform.

I suspect you wanted us to change our opinions, not explain prejudice to you. Sorry.

What - you think people shouldn't judge by appearances right - I thought so too, 25 years ago (I had added a couple of hundred pounds :-) of studs to a cutoff denim jacket & then wore it over a leather jacket. I though black jeans & boots were cool too - nothing better for the shows - Motorhead, Saxon, AC/DC etc.

Trust me - people ALWAYS judge by appearances - this is one of those things that ain't going to change - ever.

You either have to accept that, or conform (I chose to accept that - I work 50-60 hours a week in an office - terribly professional, total conformist - then I listed to The Sex Pistols, Rob Zombie & Static-X on the commute home).

my daughter went thru the goth phase, and so i think i can answer this. its the fear of the unknown, and the stigma that surrounds the whole "goth" thing. the makeup, the clothes, the piercings, the black. when my daughter had her friends over, and i had a friend over, my friend was "surprised" at how polite the kids were. its because its not "normal" don't worry so much about others: just do right because thats how people will really judge you in the end.

Frankly I don't beleive that those who think they are "goth" actually are. Wearing dark clothing, certain type of makeup, tattoos, piercings don't make you "goth", or "non comformist" because you are only following a trend someone else developed. Frankly I don't see it as being "goth" at all I see it as being more of a "lemming". "goth" is nothing more than an abbreviation of the word Gothic which Merriam Webster's defines as : Main Entry: 1Goth·ic
Pronunciation: 'gä-thik
Function: adjective
1 a : of, relating to, or resembling the Goths , their civilization, or their language b : TEUTONIC, GERMANIC c : MEDIEVAL 1 d : UNCOUTH, BARBAROUS
2 a : of, relating to, or having the characteristics of a style of architecture developed in northern France and spreading through western Europe from the middle of the 12th century to the early 16th century that is characterized by the converging of weights and strains at isolated points upon slender vertical piers and counterbalancing buttresses and by pointed arches and vaulting b : of or relating to an architectural style reflecting the influence of the medieval Gothic
3 often not capitalized : of or relating to a style of fiction characterized by the use of desolate or remote settings and macabre, mysterious, or violent incidents
- goth·i·cal·ly /-thi-k(&-)lE/ adverb
- Goth·ic·ness /-thik-n&s/ noun
So all you and your friends are are a bunch of kids who dress in dark clothing wear strange makeup, have tatts and piercings...

in case you imagine that you're a goth or emo human being, and also you're not any further ashamed of it, then you extremely are. yet in case you dont opt to be a goth or u imagine its scary, then you extremely are not any further. it extremely relies upon on the way you sense about it. and im confident its no longer merely studying horror books and wearing black nail polish that makes human beings round you label you as an emo, it may be more advantageous then that. in case you position on "goth"-y outfits (and also you recognize what i advise by making use of that) then you extremely may be. yet its only a label and labels dont describe who you truly are on the interior

Goths? Try elves. People don't know what to say to a grown man wearing elven robes. I live in the sticks and it ain't funny!

i know its kindda sad when people were not at ur side..i understand that feeling..but get real..people always judge their appearence before they knows the person..its real life..

when comes to gothic..its show a "sign" that how unpleasent u feel with ur environment..because of all ur black stuff u put on..well..if its ur way..u should keep it up..but make sure u are perpendicular with the others..because we live together..

good luck!~
