i've seen live capi(y)baras, in Brazil, and it's true, there is something weird about them. Probably because of the totally unexpected scale.
It's a bit like a "honey I shrunk the kids" moment.
of course they're peaceful animals, but a scared and cornered mouse will bite, so one cannot help but imagine what a scared and cornered capybara might do - take your arm off probably ;-)

Capybaras are more like giant guinea pigs - they are closely related to them. But I think they are cool. A semi-aquatic rodent. It would be great to have a big pond with one or two wallowing around in it.

Are there really such things? I thought they were just superimposed onto seventies comedy shows. I can't believe they're real. Oh my God. Where do they live? How do you kill them? Are they breeding? Sweet God in heaven, protect us from this oversized rodent invasion.... AAaaaaaaaarrrggh, here comes that giant cute little kitten from the Goodies!!!!!!

This wouldn't be some subtle reference to Richard 'Hamster' Hammond would it?
Strange but true - Hamsters can't eat cress.
or drive jet cars.

Define giant.
I'd say anything bigger than a dog would be scary.

Aww, no! I love hamsters! They don't have that gross tail, so they're cute as can be
