Should I try adjusting idle speed or go right for choke pull off. Also would both problems be related or two different carb problems?

I already told you-----it's the choke-pull off!

Check it this way;

remove the vacuum hose to the pull-off, operate it by hand and put your finger over the port. It should stay put. You can also pull a vacuum on it (even by sucking on it, use a new hose), or start truck with air cleaner off, rev it up and watch the pull-off to see if it is working.

Think about it, when you "hit the gas", you ARE changing the idle speed already!----lower when you put it in gear, higher when you try to accelerate. That didn't work, fix the pull-off.

i'm not a professional mechanic, but i do know that many vehicles are supposed to idle high on a cold start to help the engine warm up. with a cold engine it's common to stall if the idle is lower. when u hit the gas it auto disables the high idle speed and allows it to stall. u should give it a min to warm up b4 trying to drive it.

Sounds to me like its just being a Chevy/GMC. I've always owned Chevy's since I've been driving and they always do something like that when they get some high mileage on them. I've owned two chevys that was carburator and they done that. Right now I own a 1987 Chevy truck with throttle body injection and it does a similar action as what you described. Chevys are stubborn but their reliable.

i own a repair shop,,and i think you,ll find the choke pull off is bad,,and it may need some adjusting after you get a new one on it, it is probably whats causing both problems on it,,but you really wont know for sure till you get the pull off put on it,id get it on,,and let it get to operating temperature ,and see how it does before i did anything else to it,i do this all the time,i hope this helps,good luck with it.

I'd check the vacuum to the choke pull-off.
I'm assuming that you have a Quadrajet.
I'd also listen for a vacuum leak...possible atthe carb base plate where the PCV line comes out.

It should idle high temp. on cold start untill it warms up.The stalling sounds like a choke problem.

Yes your choke is the right place to start looking. Make sure it's opening.From what you've described I doubt it.
