How old do you have to be to work in california?

can you be 15 and a half or does it have to be 16 years old

15 1/2 with a work permit that you can get from your high school counselor probably. It was hard to get one that young though. They really want you to be at least 16.

I started working when I was 13. You just have to get a work permit from your school. Or that is what I had to do back in the day. Some companies may have their own rules about only hiring 16 year olds but it is not a state law.

Federal law says you have to be 16 in most non farm jobs.
