I have no network listed to choose from to connect to (only an old dial up account) although other computers are connected to the wireless network in my office .. I have tried replacing the network card but no light comes on on the card itself - any clues would be soooo much appreciated..

~ Do you have all the necessary peripherals to run your wireless network?
~ Or do you have a wireless router?

Do you have a wireless network card? You might need to enable it using control panel.

you can make it so the wireless network will not broadcast and only certain computers can go on it.
