They are both painful. This question really depends on the type of pain medication that is taken. You of course will only feel pressure with the C-section. But it will hurt afterward. I personally delivered my son vaginally and never had a problem. I just took my pain pills as prescribed and never felt a thing.

I've had four children, all were vaginal births.

With my youngest, born in January of this year, I had no epidural. The contractions hurt, dilation hurt, there was a burning pain when the baby's head was coming out... pushing hurt but not in a bad way. Pushing was more of a relief. It felt so good to be able to do something after the pain of the contractions.

I tore a bit and needed a few stitches. My stitches were uncomfortable, but only for a couple of days, and they never hurt.

I was tired for days, but any pain I had was short-lived. As I said, I've never had a c-section (Thank God!), but it involves being cut open... it is bound to involve more of a recovery time thant an uncomplicated vaginal delivery. C-sections can also cause concerned during future pregnancies (some hospitals still flat out refuse to allow V-BACs).

I guess I really can't speak for how much pain accompanies a c-section... I can, however, say how much pain does not have to accompany a vaginal delivery.

they both can be painful. natural child birth is always the best for you and the baby. if you excercise/walk daily the pain isn't that bad. you'll be able to get up and move around quite easily afterwards. if you have a epidural you want feel a thing till it wheres off. but you can still hurt afterwards. the wearing off part is the shakes. that all by itself is scary. But a c-section is the worst. you will in up with gas pains. that can be very uncomfortable compounded by the fact that you were just cut open and sewed back up trapping the air inside you. trying to go to the bathroom is hard because you can barely move. and don't forget the fact that you also have a newborn baby to take care of.

I had both vaginal and c-section . My 1st son was delivered vaginal and i was cut a 4th degree cut and still tore the other direction. It took forever for me to heal and is still painful to have sex in certain positions. My body was just not built to deliver vaginally. My 2nd son was delivered by c-section because of my first baby. It took a while to heal. You do not feel any pain during the c-section just pressure, but afterwards it was very painful. The only way i can describe it is it felt like my insides were going to fall out. Everyone is different and you should go with what your doc recommends for your situation. Good luck!!!

I did it all natural and it does not hurt to push the baby out at all! The only thing that hurts are the contractions. The actually pushing is a relief. And if all goes well, then you usually don't have any pain after like you would with a csection.

Pushing the baby out vaginally hurts more, but the pain is over almost immediately after the baby is born, and recovery is much faster. Giving birth during a c-section is painless because you're numbed from mid-chest down, but the recovery is much longer, and very painful. (You don't realize just exactly how much you rely on your abdominal muscles on a daily basis until you've had them sliced open.)

Honestly, I was afraid to give birth vaginally. I didn't want to tear. I was glad to be having a c-section after 36 hours of labor. I had absolutely no problems with my c-section. I really didn't take all the medication at the hospital. I wasn't a complainer so they would kind of forget to give me the meds and I really didn't need them. I was sore, sure but not in pain. the only thing about having a c-section for me was the tape they used on me. It gave my skin an allergic reaction and I was sooo itchy. They stupid doctor on duty didn't want to give me any steroid cream. I really couldn't lift heavy objects after the c-section but I wasn't in so much pain I couldn't breastfeed my baby like so many other moms I saw. My second will be c-section too. The doctor recomended it.

The actual procedure doesn't hurt at all- you'll feel them pulling the baby out, but absolutely no pain. The recovery is quite uncomfortable- especially the first time you try to stand up. Just take it slow- and make sure you have help from a nurse or doctor. DO NOT try to stand up by yourself- you will end up on the floor. The doctors should give you Morphine thru IV while you're recovering, and then pain pills after you come off the Morphine. As soon as you can, get up and walk the halls of the hospital. It helps. Don't get too far from your room though...lol..if your hospital is like mine, they'll give you a laxative to help your first BM!!

For me the section hurt more and the other thing is the section take a lot longer to heal. SO even if you tolerate that surgery bettwe then vag delivery, you will be in more pain after and for longer period of time.

c-sections take so much longer to heal, you have to go under anesthisa and stay on medication for quite a while afterwards. My friend recently had one and I wouldn't do that unless it was absolutely necessary.

As for during the delivery, you don't feel a thing while they pull the baby out, you feel pressure and my friend said something tickled. But afterwards was hell for her. She said her vaginal delivery with her first born was so much easier than this last one.
