Well, I sometimes wear a hardhat shaped like one and you are the retared one if you enter a construction site without one on.
Seriously, real cowboys don't care what you think about the hats they wear. What you think just puts on display how little you know about cowboys. A cowboy's hat is designed the way it is for utility. The wide brim shields his face and eyes from the sun for many hours through the day when he's out there moving the cattle that will become the Quarter Pounder you order at McDonald's. He uses it to scoop water out of a creek for a drink for himself and a quick splash across his face. He sleeps under it on cold nights.
I am assuming you live on the East Coast in some large city. I pity you. You know nothing about life in the West. Seriously, you are just retarded...

to make them feel good?! Cowboy hat could get you in spot light in some occasions since not everybody into it..
Lately in Beijing International Airport, i saw a lot of local tourists wearing cowboy hats as a sign of their group~

I think they look handsome on guys,and when girls wear them right they look Pretty cute. (and I think people wear them for sun protection wail in the open range.)
