i own a repair shop,,and they go in for lean,and out for rich,and you can also do what is called a lean drop method on it run the rpm,s up a little ,lean it out,,and then start dropping the rpm,s on it,,this will get it real good and smooth,and also real lean,and the mileage will be good on it also,we used to do this to them when gas first went up high the first time back in the 70,s,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Wait a minute. I thought the idle mixture screws on most carbs were for that- idle mixture. They only control fuel mixture at idle and off-idle. Cruise and WOT mixture is controlled by the jets and airbleeds in the main metering circuits. Jets/rods/airbleeds if its a Q-jet.
