Why are hummingbird moths called moths if they fly in daytime?

I have lots of these in my garden, in Japan, are they dangerous? Are they rare?

Moths have feathery antenna & butterflies don't - as well as some other differences.....

I want a garden in Japan!!!! : /

Moths are distinguished from butterflies and other insects by their physical structure, not by when they fly.

Because they look remarkably like a hummingbird.
