Ozone and hydrogen peroxide are environmentally friendly even though they're both poisonous, as they break down during the bleaching process, and they're unstable anyway. Here in NZ our pulp and paper industry is switching from chlorine to peroxide as a bleaching agent for this reason.

Lemon juice is a good bleach helper. Also baking soda. But what are you trying to bleach..that makes a difference as well.
