For me, violent nightmares were my body's way to wake me up because my blood sugar was getting too low (hypoglycemia). I was really tired at work too, along with other symptoms. One can have a recurring dream.

Before you go to bed, like about 30 minutes before, eat a small snack. I suggest 1-2 oz of turkey (triptophan - spelling approximate), a cracker or a cookie, or if you are concerned about your weight - a low glycemic carbohydrate and some nuts - almonds or peanuts are best. This is a recipe for some slow burning energy that will help level your blood sugar out for the night.

If this works, and you should know it in about 3 days if it will - consistently, you may want to check out www.hufa.org for more info on low blood sugar, its causes, and things you can do about it.

Eek. That's scary. Have you been raped/abused in your lifetime?
Maybe it has something to do with that. . . But if not it could just be some weird subconscious fear of yours, or maybe it doesn't mean anything at all. Some dreams are just that. Dreams.

Insecure? Try picturing yourself as physically powerful or armed before going to sleep. When I was a kid it would allow me to have better outcomes to my nightmares. You could also take up martial arts. I've also noticed that I tend to have unpleasant dreams when I'm dehydrated.
