The way I understand it, this is the first time they have actually recruited contestants. Another issue with the initial applicants aside from race is that so many of them are students of the game with strong opinions on strategy. They wanted some fresh players that were NOT total Survivor strategists, as well as fitting their ethnic format they were trying to set up. And after they recruited them, they still had to go through the application process. There have been actors among the contestants every season, they have just as much right as anyone to compete on Survivor. It can be a great vehicle for an unknown/aspiring actor to get their face seen on TV. They also have doctors, lawyers, nurses, students, models, waitresses, bartenders, pilots, astronauts, ex-football players, bums, yada-yada-yada. Every person that goes through the Survivor experience has their own reasons for wanting to put themselves through that kind of extremity. And once they are out on their island, all those titles are stripped away, and just don't matter any more. Is that not one of the main points of the show? Mark Burnett and team may pick the people and orchestrate the situations, but there is no way anyone could predict how a certain group of people will react to those situations, NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO FOR A LIVING, THEIR RACE, SEX, AGE, etc. THAT is WHY it is my favorite show, and I'm really getting tired of people that don't even watch it blasting their negative attitudes all over the internet! If you don't like the show, or what Mark Burnett is doing with it, CHANGE THE FREAKING CHANNEL!
