Halloween and Christmas

We never got candy except at Christmas
And that's when we made pigs of ourselves.
The gold coins were gone out of the stockings
before the sun arose on the Nativity's morn.
Somtimes there was a five pound can of hard candy
But it would be gone before Christmas dinner began.

The annual occasion for treats is Halloween
But we were not allowed out to trick or treat
So we went outside and scared the chidren away
From our own house, and when the evening was late
And the visitors dried up to nothing
We returned inside and gobbled the treats ourselves.

The Halloween fare of candy corn and mallomars
Of tiny midget sized candy bars in aluminum wrap
Were wolfed down gluttonously, to get ones share
Before they were gone. It was like that every year.
But the Christmas sweets were legendary -- kingly --
The gold coins, chocolate covered nougats and
the princely Almond Roca.

Candy Princess

I found a Candy Princess,
Lips bubblegum pink
Eyes sour apple green
I found a Candy Princess
Her dress is made of lollipops
Butter rum and Cherry
I found a Candy Princess

Her lips are sweet
They taste like cherries
I love my lollipop Candy Princess

We dance and sing,
Sticky sweet and happy
Innocence
Edible flowers wreathes
On our heads

I found a Candy Princess

My World

In my dream,
stars were glowing in the sky.
Marshmallows fell like
snow falling.
The sun rose and it was a beautiful day.
Cotton candy were the clouds.

I walk on and I saw
graham cracker stepping stones.
Lifesaver flowers rose from the ground.
Long pretzels stood tall.
I started to eat.

I heard a sound.
It sounded like my mom.
I woke up, and said,
"I don't want to get up. I'm still eating!"

Sheesh I'd think that poem topic would be super easy for a kid to write. I'd love to have been given such an assignment when I was your age.
