I have a problem with adding commercially prepared chemicals to my tank. I use only bottled spring water and freshwater aquarium salt. The salt makes life really hard for most parasites, and causes the fish to produce more slime making it harder for them to get sick. It also, to a certain point, helps protect against nitrite poisoning

Stress Zyme *is* a sham - there is no possible way any bacteria in there could possibly have arrived to the pet store alive, let alone to your house. The only product that contains LIVE bacteria is BioSpira, and the only time you really ever need to add bacteria to the tank is at the start of your nitrogen cycle when you first start the tank up.

For conditioners, I'm partial to Aquarium Pharmaceutical's Tap Water Conditioner (removes heavy metals, chlorine, chloramines) and Seachem's Neutral Regulator (removes ammonia, chlorine, chloramines; softens water, keeps pH at around 7.0). Come to think of it, these two things are the only chemicals that go into any of the three tanks (with the exception of meds in the quarantine tank).

Most anything from API is good stuff, but I started using Prime from Seachem just recently, and it's the only Non-API chem I will ever use now. No other aquarium water conditioning product is required to make tap water safe. Prime removes Chlorine and Chloramine (even in high Chloramine levels), and detoxifies Ammonia and Nitrites.

The stuff truly is the bomb!

I just noticed that my girl tikitiki posted the same thing! She is right!

Prime made by Seachem. One 8.5 ounce bottle treats 2500 gallons. Goes a long way, costs about 9. a bottle, but lasts a long time. Removes chlorine, chloramine, ammonia, detox's nitrite and nitrate, & provides slime coat.

Don't know about this, but it is most important to keep the temperature uniform, and nothing settling on the surface to cut off the absorbsion of oxygen.

i have a strong opinoin that stress coat is the best water treatment...it conditions the water, reduces stress, renews fish's slime coat...my advice is to go with taht (if your fish has any cuts or nipped fins it helps them heal also because it has aloe in it
