Life is ironic. Only when you stop obsessing about affection and stop trying so hard to give and receive it, will it come to you. It's a matter of not trying so hard, partly.

When others sense your level of need in that respect, it scares them off. Only when you don't need it so bad, can it happen.

One of the reasons it scares others, is that your level of need for giving and receiving affection makes it a big deal and the people, themselves, may feel inadequate to the task. When you back off a little and learn to be more relaxed, others won't be so turned off, repulsed, and afraid of contact with you.

Part of this is also "social maturity". The little kid wants a steam shovel for his birthday. Is dying to have it. Once he gets it, it is lying in the corner in a day or so. The little kid has no interest or waning interest because it has become a met need. True affection, either on the giving or receiving end, is something you really may not understand or have a truly mature appreciation for. You should search deep within yourself about this.

Picture yourself with someone who truly gives you all the affection you would ever need and gives it to you all the time that you request it. Are you sure you would respect this person, and not be pining and sighing away about someone else who doesn't do this? Are you sure you would really be capable of giving this person all the affection this person truly needs? Again, before you answer this question, look deep inside yourself.

Understanding yourself better can lead you to happiness and a healthier interaction with others whereby you can get your needs met.

Good luck with your quest.

Learn to love yourself first and foremost and other people will be drawn to you. If you have interests and hobbies then join clubs in your area and make friends that way too. Good luck!
