I have a 86' chevy silverado just put a new 350 in it. not sure about the valve adjustment,it came with a factory cam and solid lifters. Can any one help?

i think you got hydrolic valve lifters,so take off your valve covers,and start your truck(let it idle)now take the first rocker and loosen it till you hear it rattle and then turn it till it stops,then give it another half to 3 quarters more turn and go to the rest of them.hope this helps you.good luck.......oh by the way if you got positive stop,then put the rocker all the way down on the low cam and torque the nut and do the same to the rest.,but i think that older year,you probably got hydrolic lifters.

is it a rebuild? most rebuilds are factory adjusted. if its a local rebuild then find out what the spec for the gap between the rocker arm and push rod is supposed to be and set it. the tricky part is to start the engine and listen (with a automotive stethoscope if needed) to hear which tappets are making noise. some guys like to adjust them with the engine running some don't, it depends on your bravery and willingness to be covered in oil. you tighten them until the clicking sound is barely heard. remember safety first
