I currently live in Richmond.
I would use the Virginia Employment Commision, www.vec.virginia.gov/vecportal.
The largest employer in the area, other than the government, is Capital One.
If you go to the Richmond Times Dispatch, annually they list the largest companies in the area, private and public.
Good luck in your search!

I used to work in downtown Richmond. Check with the VA state government, they have tons of offices in and around Richmond. You could also check with some of the colleges (VCU in Richmond, Mary Washington Univ. in Fredericksburg, Univ of Richmond).
You can also check out this website for jobs around Richmond:

You can start with VEC (virginia employment commission), both areas have quite a few state jobs (dhrm.state.va.us) and federal jobs (usajobs.opm.gov). Also the local papers Richmond Times Dispatch.

I live in Fredericksburg and it is still booming. Some possibilities include GEICO, new hotels being built (don't know their names yet), Mary Washington Hospital and probably best of all, temporary work agencies (they cover a lot of the small businesses). There are a ton of large stores you can check out too.
Check here for local jobs:

Good luck!
