Someone is dominant in every relationship. When a guy is trying to get in your good graces,he's on his best behavior.Sounds like you become the submissive one after a relationship begins. As sad as it sounds, you want him to treat you well, you need to keep him wondering if he has "caught you".After a while you'll have established your roles and life will continue that way.

Nice guys, friendly guys and gentlemen treat women with friendship and respect no matter how "deep" the relationship gets.

Keeping men "away" and at "arm's length" may be a successful strategy to find yourself being "treated better".

It may work on two levels..................

If you have men as mere friends...........you will never turn into the dreaded "girlfriend-from-hell" that we have all met. The worst you can become is a "some-girl-I-knew".......that used to blah- blah- blah.

You also won't fall into the arms of the jerks we all know and spend what's left of your heart and life needing something/someone who was never there in the first place.

Either way you win.

When you find that you have become "one" with a true friend..... you'll be able to throw away the "strategies" and live a full life..... full of trust and love.

Amen to that!! I get treated like a queen by my guy friends, but as soon as I get into a relationship with someone it all goes down the crapper.

It's just easier to be friends, hang out, talk on the phone all the time, etc., it's almost like having a boyfriend, but without any of the headaches and BS that go along with the whole boyfriend thing.

Plus, since you're not boyfriend/girlfriend, you don't have the added pressure of trying to look perfect all the time. Your guy friends don't care if your legs are shaved or if you don't have any make-up on!

No, I haven't noticed that. I think all the lovers I've had and finally my husband has always treated me with the most love and respect. My guy-friends are few, and they know that we will never be more than that. So they treat me nice, but never better than a lover has.

Yes, but the absolute BEST is when you are best friends with the guy you're in a relationship with. Then, you have the best of both. It's rare but it does happen.

I agree. I feel comfortable and at ease around my guy friends. I can go out, have fun, or just hang out without going through the emotional rollar coaster of "he loves me, he loves me not". They tend to feel at ease also. It's nice.

but we can't get the "equal" friendship back all the time. only at the beginning, he might be interested in this kind of friendship, but as soon as you stated you mind that nothing more would happen, he 'll just leave you alone.
