I was shy too. I think shyness is when you take yourself too seriously and you can't laugh at yourself when you screw up. Maybe you worry too much about saying something stupid or worry too much about what people think about you.
I think you need to start to learn how to laugh at yourself and see the humor in who you are and how you do things -etc... Also, you have to start forcing yourself to step out of your shell. Say hi to cashiers when you go to a store and try to smile at people. Think of something nice to say to people when you meet them and say it. I think girls do this more... Like you could say to a lady, "you have a nice smile, or I like your laugh...etc.."
Too shy is bad because people will think you're stuck up, unapproachable, or not nice. You could be the sweetest person in the world and they will percieve these other ways. That is what convinced me to stop being shy.
Also, read this book by Steve Chandler "Reinventing Yourself" He talks about how to break out of the labels we give ourselves and become something that you want to be.
Good luck.

Hey, I'm with ya. I was SO shy in high school. Drama class did help a little bit. It makes you open up.
I made the choice to go into college with a completely open mind. Stop worrying all the time and just do what I wanted. So what if someone didn't like it?
Sounds easy right? Not so much. Still, I've really tried it. I try not to think about everything so much.
I hope you achieve what you want to! Have fun!!

I have been to most of my life. I think hard work is bestto break this habbit. Put yourself in more and more social situations. If you change a job take one with more exposure or just try to converse more. Start out small just talk about a universal subject. Use tools in work or school or whereeveryou are daily. Example if you work in a office use an office or work item as a conversation piece. This will at least start the line of conversation and break the ice.

Naaaa not really, I was always real shy in school but when I got out of high school I realized that I could be a complete idiot and I could just change jobs, it's that easy once your out. So then the shyness goes away. Anyway who cares if your shy it's just the way you are right? ;-)

It's okay to be shy, sometimes we have our reasons. The truth is that it is never easy to be around people and feel completely comfortable. The best thing to do is to find out what you fear and face that fear as much as you can and after time you will find that it is easier to do that thing that you are afraid of. Get involved in something that you like, it is easier to talk to people that have similar intrests. In the meantime smile a lot and say Hi to people, most of the time people are more worried about what you think of them than what they are thinking about you. Be brave, your normal, other people feel the same way you do.

When you know you need to 'make a move' just pretend you are somebody else - somebody you think is cool. Just do what you know they would do in your position. Say what they would say......you can do it! Good luck!
