Hi, I saw a site that I really like.. Now, I want to write a book about this web site, but I'm not sure if I can get sued if I mention their company on the book cover.. Let me give you an example, if I make a book and name it "How to create wealth by using Yahoo search engines", can Yahoo sue me because I used their company name? Is this legal?

Thanks..

I dont think so as long as you give credit to them.

What you do is say "Yahoo is a registered trademark of ...."

Also make sure you don't misrepresent any relationship between you and yahoo. This is why you see "The completely unofficial/unauthorized/whatever" in so many titles.

Yahoo can't sue you for using the word as long as you don't use the word for something that Yahoo can or is using to make money already. For example, you can't make a t-shirt with the yahoo logo and sell it because you don't have permission. The brand of the shirt is Yahoo. You can't name a website Yahoo something or they will sue you. But writing *about* Yahoo is accepted. It is no different than CNN reporting about them.

Email the company and get permission Im sure if I had a website I would want someone to write a book on it if its in a good way... But I would probably ask first...Good Luck

You might want to check with an attorney, If you use their company name and PROFIT (the key word) from it without getting their permission first you may find yourself in a pickle. But, remember; ANYONE can file a lawsuit and sue someone for anything!
