I don't know why people take cars to go two blocks, thats strange to me. Is anyone else an avid walker, or am I a dying breed?

I understand if you have kids, or are going far away that a car is great, but I'm talking about people who ALWAYS take the car to leave the house, even across the street! Believe me, I've seen a lot.

I walk every where, to the gym, to the school, to my job, to the market, to oetco to buy dog food, I think because I rely a lot on public transportation, namely the train. But I like it, we need to walk! We need excersise!

I love walking!!! the problem is that where I live it's dangerous to walk by yourself so people must take the car, but whenever I get a chance to walk I do it!

They are called couch potatoes. There are many people who still walk and worked out by the way. I work in Manhattan and I walk any way from 15 to 20 blocks and back each day. I do this on purpose to get my daily exercise, the hit the gym on weekend.

I think it's more of a problem among suburbanites, who are used to having to drive everywhere. I live in Manhattan, and I've walked from Brooklyn to the Museum of Natural History as a matter of course, but it's a mindset. If all your life you had to get in a car to go anywhere, wouldn't it make sense that the car becomes your first instinct when you want to travel?
