Because a lot of people are very ignorant. I myself have a Rebel flag and I'm black. to me the flag symbolizes the south as a culture and it represents history not hate. I just think people need to open their eyes and see more.

Because they are morons. The confederate flag is Not about racism, or slavery. It was the Southern flag before the war, during the war, and after the war. It was not created by the KKK it was used by the KKK. Not everyone that sports a confederate flag is racist at All. The flag represents the south and the southern way of life. It did not, nor will it represent slavery except by those that use it in that way. There are several black people in my area that have them on there cars because they are southern...

lildevilchild_87 - (and others)
What on earth are you talking about it? How do you manage to get so much wrong with so few words?
There was no single Confederate flag - although some version of the 'Bars and Stars' is what most people think of.
It was not only people of the south who kept and believed in slavery. There were slaves in the north and there was racism in the north.
No city in American fought school integration more than Boston.
The flag is perceived racist - there is a basis for those feelings, and they should be respected.
The confederate flag should more accurately today be called the Republican flag.
When Republicans took control of the KKK in the early 20th century, the flag was one of their symbols - along with the Christian cross and bible - they carried with them as they intimidated, tortured and killed Blacks, Jews and other minorities.
Christianity, racism , and rape-torture-kill always travel together.

The same reason the Swastika is considered evil, it was a symbol of a horrific ideal. Rebel flag=Symbol of the South during the Civil War=South wanting the continuation of slavery= slavery equals racism meaning rebel flag = racist

The rebel flag isnt racist but I mean come on when you see the KKK waving it around with there little hoods on it kinda looks racist to me and also the whole thing that started the civil war was that the south wanted states rights so they could have slaves..... and so there flag represents the right to have slaves in a sense I guess.....

Ignorance. This flag was the national flag of the Confederate States of America. It has nothing to do with slavery in and of itself. Its a shame that a few ignorant liberals were able to have such impact on a major part of our American history. A history that belongs to all Americans. Black, white, red, yellow and brown. The reason for the civil war was that southern states wanted to secede from the union and become sovereign states, not because the North wanted to end slavery. There were slave owners in the north as well.

It is a Confederate Battle Flag. One reason it is considered racist by many is because there have been people who have committed hate crimes (such as KKK) and they fly the flag. I despise them using the flag that my ancestors fought under for what they believed. Another reason people consider it racist is because they're not properly educated about the War Between the States. One of the answers I noticed said that it was because the Confederates used it in the war and the war was about slavery. CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE WHO HAS NOT BEEN TAUGHT THE TRUTH!

The Confederate flag was the symbol of the South when they secced from the Union. The South left the Union because the Union wanted to outlaw slavery. Therefore, the Confederate flag has become a symbol for slavery and in turn racism against blacks.

Because it made a resurgence on the flags of many Southern states during the days of desegregation in the 1950's and 1960's and became a thinly veiled way to try to maintain "Jim Crow" as a way of life in the South. Apparently, those who fought to put the "rebel flag" on their state flags didn't seem to care that it must have been very disturbing for their black constituents.
