this is the whole question---

Although the members of many animals derive benefits from living in social groups, members of other species live alone. What might be the adaptive advantage of solitary living?

I don't know, but it seems to tie in pretty well with the modern environment that we have created for ourselves. I think that, unless our society changes its direction somehow, we will be selected for solitary living.

It won't answer your homework, but after you give a good answer, it might make your prof think, "huh!"

Solitary animals have their own area for hunting or foraging.

freedom to roam about and do what they want. they also do not need to worry about others apart from themselves. essentially, its about ensuring its own survival rather than that of the species/population.
