Why should they be treated any better than anyone else just because they are poor? I came from a poor family, didn't have enought to eat and no heat or running water (my family didn't believe in taking handouts) and I don't have a big education or anything but I am not violent and have no desire to go out and rob and kill people. My parents broke up when I was 4 but I managed to stay out of trouble. Isn't it just an excuse to be lazy and take other people's stuff?

Yes. My parents divorced when I was a baby and my grandparents raised my brother and I. We were poor and we didn't commit crimes because our grandparents would have beat us black and blue. It is nothing more than a lack of hometraining and no discipline.

It's not necessarily an excuse for some, but a factor in why they become criminals. You had a strong enough family and upbringing to avoid this. I had a tough childhood, also, but since it was in the middle of freakin' NOWHERE, the crimes I committed were relatively unnoticed. If someone grows up in an area where crime is the normal behavior, then they will be criminals before they are 'civilized'. (civilization, by definition, requires cities). Do you just tell a tiger not to eat people and put it in a zoo without bars? No. If we are going to have cities, we either have to make sure the people in them are civilized, or we have to pay for the bars. It is a system that has been built by fools using economics, that should have been built instead by your parents (and people like them).
If we didn't have a regular system to produce criminals, what would all those cops do?

No, you have misunderstood what is going on. no longer something excuses committing against the regulation. Criminals must be arrested and dropped at justice. while human beings advance the historic past of a criminal, in spite of if, they are attempting to understand what could inspire one among those guy or woman. with the aid of doing this, there may well be issues that must be achieved to evade that variety of guy or woman from committing crimes interior the destiny. In different words, that's a gaining knowledge of journey, no longer an excuse.

yeah but more rich people steal more money than the few poor. they also get away with it.

some poor people discover this fact and decide to do the same but get caught because they do not have powerful friends to protect them so it only SEEMS like the poor are doing the stealing when actually it is the rich. that is why they are rich.
the fact that you personally have not resorted to theft means nothing. you are a statistical zero. you have to look at the big picture.the corruption in politics and big business is epidemic. How do you explain the massive thefts of ENRON people or the banking crisis in which george bush's brother got rich by robbing old people of life savings. was he poor and abused as a child? you probably know nothing about any of this as you are obviously just a small time chump being ripped off by the rich and do not even realize it. what are you paying for gas or home taxes or interest or insurance? get smart you poor ignorant fool and see who is really the big crooks in USA. certainly not the poor abused children from broken homes. they are truly the actual victims of this society. stop blaming the wrong people.

good question. i've thought about it. i learned from my coworker who grew up in poverty, that one thing they experience is independence at a very young age. she didn't get the guidance before she got the independence. therefore before the age of 10, she was granted total control of her life (her parents worked 24-7), and just like that total independence is scary for a 20 year old, it is very scary for a child. they push the boundaries of right and wrong, and learn to get away with the wrong because without parental supervision, there are no consequences. often the schools can do little to provide structure and discipline. as a result, those in poverty without supportive homes may be more likely to commit crimes.

Possibly. There were probably other factors that helped you to escape being in trouble with the law- a loving parent, decent friends, a strong values sytem, intelligence, etc.

There are only two things in this world that I am just about 100% sure of:

1) The human race has an almost infinite capacity to fool itself. 2) The world is in search of a good excuse.

I think the answer to your question can be found in those two statements.

I commend you for becoming a good member of society. Not everything is explained by poverty thats for sure. And even some people abused don't abuse others later in life. However, the sad fact is that people who were abused tend to abuse others. People raised by criminals tend to become criminals. People raised by drug addicts tend to become drug addicts. Etc. Etc. SO I understand your frustration because you did it right. But not everybody does or is able to. Thats just the way it is. Your level of compassion or lack of compassion is between you and your maker.

They have to have something or somebody to blame it on. They know they are breaking the law, but they just gotta cry about it and blame some one else when they get busted.
