Regular cookies are simple objects, which are present in temporary internet files, It also identifies us as a user when u log in to your mail. Yahoo sign-in seal is also a cookie. U may be asked to sign in again if u clear cookies during viewing emails or checking mails. It's cookie which is remembering your login and allows u to continue. But tarcking cookies are different. Some cookies are known as tracking cookies and they register how much times u visited a webpage for advertising purposes. Such cookies are not harmful for your computer in anyways, but it's more or less privacy matter. Removing it is well and good. Yes some traking cookies such as atdmt.com are present in yahoo as well. It's good for u to remove it, though it doesn't harm your computer. Mostly tracking cookies are 3rd party cookies, that is cookies posted by another website( u see lots of ads in yahoo, rite, they post cookies to let them know how many persons viewed their ads and how many times, and it's not yahoo posting them).

Tracking cookies allow websites to track visitors and their activites. While most cookies are safe, you can potentially experience unwanted malicious attacks such as spyware\adware or even viruses with third party cookies.

You want to disable the thrid party cookies in your internet explore browser. Go to tools\options & click Privacy tab then the advanced button and check the BLOCK under third party cookies

Cookies are COMPLETELY safe. One web site cannot see another site's cookie. All I could do is store the number of visits in a cookie and increase it by one every time you visit - big deal.
