I was watching a film, Stand By Me, and half way through my jaw dropped! I fancied one of the male characters! I must have been about 11 or 12, but before that point in the film I had been interested in girls, not boys. I loved the girls at school, and never thought of a boy in that way until half way through the film, it's like it triggered something inside me. I was just sat there, and couldn't believe what was happening. Quite scary actually.
Anyway, I'm 21 now and proud to be gay/bi whatever I am (still not figured that out!) but I finally accepted I liked lads when I was 17, about 6 years in denial, probably because I have homophobic parents.

It was the one with blonde hair, bit like Ben from Hollyoaks (phwoor, he's nice...lol) River Phoenix I think, with red stripey top on!

When I moved to New York City from London. I was only 14, but my black skin, green eyes, frizzy hair, and British accent got me much attention and affection from every boy in school. I felt like they were just annoying me. I wanted attention from the girls. I soon realized I was attracted to women, which makes me a Lesbian. I'm 30 years old, today in fact, Septmber 23, and have had a few serious relationships. I'm presently single, looking for my perfect woman.

I was 8. I was at a cub scout evening, and remember looking across the hall at this boy I knew, Richard. I didn't then know what the feeling was, but now I do - I fancied him.

Anyway, all through high school I had all sorts of sexual encounters with guys who allegedly weren't gay - yeah right - but have really been in denial since then. My folks are the most vehemently anti-gay people and I remember my Dad telling me - when I was about 14 - that gay people were sick, and that it was a 'lifestyle choice' to be gay. Complete bullshit.

So, as you can imagine, I have never told them. It's a shame, but I just don't know how they'd take it. So i go on living a lie. They're both educated people, though, so I guess they have figured it out, although they've never asked. If it were the other way around, I'd have said to my kid 'it's ok, we love you just the same'. not from them, though.

So I'm still unhappy. Life goes on.

When I was 5 or 6, there was one boy I just wanted to be with all the time at school - not for anything in particular, just to be wherever he was. When I was 9 at a boarding school I used to creep into bed with one boy and snog him half to death. Can still remember the smell of his skin. I had a best mate when I was 11 that I still miss.

So I was emotionally gay, I should say, from the start. Later, when the need became physical, it never seemed unnatural to me to be attracted to the same people for that as I'd always liked to be with for everything else.

However, everyone at the time used to bang on about sin and perversion and there were no well-adjusted role models for a gay adolescent, so I wasted a certain amount of time (and not only mine) thinking I ought to go straight.

But in the end the heart goes where it has to, whatever the head says. At 17 I was head over heels in love with a boy in the same class and the need for him was as strong as the need to eat, drink and breathe. The conflict really tore me to bits for about a year, till I gave up trying to conform to the propaganda that wanting boys was a "phase" It was completely pointless anyway, and it was such a relief just to be me, and sort of rejoin the human race.

Be whatever you are, that's my advice, live your life honestly and responsibly as your nature requires, whether it's gay or bi or straight, and I hope you'll be happy.

I've just always been attracted to both genders. Although I did think my attraction to women was "wrong" or "bad" due to social stigmas.
I hid my own attractions for many years, even thought that if I married a man and had children it would magically "cure" me of my attractions to women.
It didn't.
I took a long time to actually accept that I am in fact attracted to both. When I came out to my family, though, I came out as "gay" simply because it was easier to describe and I wouldn't have to explain anything more.
Even having been in a lesbian relationship for the past ten years, I know I'm still attracted to some men as well and I'm completely comfortable with it. I'm committed to my partner and would never cheat on her, ever!
But, it's not to say that if anything were to happen, Gods forbid, that I wouldn't be open to a relationship with a man or another woman.

21ish. I was introduced to Gwen at the office by the supervisor. I was interested in classical music and gardening, not generally popular. We became friends, gardening at each others homes and going to concerts or Gilbert and Sullivan. After evening shows, we would exchange a kiss. After 3 years ;I was then 21, We had a serious discussion about what was happening. We decided to buy a house and live together. I do not think the term "gay" was used much then. I had heard nastier terms whispered..
Live well. love kindly, Rose P.

I was dopey not to know for years before but the first time I really realised I was about 15 and I was obsessed with looking at my boyfriends porn and letting him put up the posters from them! It really only occurred to me that I should do something about it when I noticed this girl who I was fascinated with, had a baby who was the same age as mine, I fancied her sooooooo much, she went on to be my first girlfriend for a while, by that time I was 21. I was 29 when my parents found out I batted for the other side, when I met my current girlfriend and entered in to my first really serious, no need to hide relationship with her.
