Take a tennis ball and place it between you and the wall and massage the area. You could try icing it for 20 minutes to get it to calm down, heat may work but may also aggravate it.

I don't usually endorse products -- but if you use a heating pad, and it feels better, but then locks up again when you need to be in school or work (or you just don't want to deal with a heating pad at all), then try Thermacare. I used to have a lot of back issues -- exercise and chiropractic helped a lot, but in times when I twist the wrong way or whatever, this really makes the day bearable.

I just bought a 6-inch-wide foam roller... I can roll over my back knots myself, or someone else can roll it over my back for me. HEAVEN! It cost $15.00 from an online company called Extertools.
My body is my bread and butter (I'm an actor) and this little baby has saved me a lot of pain in my current gig. I am working out-of-town and can't see my chiropractor or regular masseuse, and this roller has been a real lifesaver!
The tennis ball trick above is great, too! And Tiger Balm.
