i am thinkin of having my tongue pierced, but i have quite a few fillings in my mouth, and have heard that getting it done will be the same as like putting tin foil on your fillings, and may get an electric shock type thing? is this true, and if so is there any possible way i could still have it done?
also, just any advice anyone has? and good/bad experiences? do people think it is worth having done? any advice for the type of bar i should have it done with(if i do?), any aftercare advice?
and the obvious question... how badly does it hurt... honestly?
thanks in advance! =)

i have quite a few fillings too and i have my tongue peirced... when they innitally do it they will use a barbell with metal balls... they tell you to keep it in for x ammount of weeks... well i didnt wana wait so one day in class i decided i was going to take the balls off and switch them with acrylic ones which is a non metal material which is sorta like plastic and it was fine...if you dont want to wait just be carful because when you try and eat that first few weeks you will bite on the balls a few times... and when i did have the metal balls in and i accidently bit on one of them it hurt because i bit on something hard and less because the metal hit my fillings... truth be told metal on fillings really doesnt hurt as bad as everyone says it does... as for the bar i use metal ones and they never touch my fillings.. but if you are going to be prone to play with it with your teeth use a plastic one after you are healed because it will damage your teeth if your not carful.. when i play with mine i use my lips to catch it instead of my teeth..if you do that from the begining you wont damage your teeth as much...haha sorry i hope this makes sense... but if you wana do it do it.. i really wanted one forever.. so i finally did it... and as for the pain... i wont lie to you... i will be the first one in line to tell you it was very painfull in my opinion... but i feel it was worth it because i like all my peircings and the pain that went with them... its deffenetly an experience... hope i helped!

usually i dont post responses but i was shocked to see how negative all of the other answers were...so...i had to put a positive spin on things.
body piercing -what ever part you choose- can be a really great experience. i am a teacher and have worked in pretty conservative school districts yet i have found that people are rarely aware of my piercings. i have had my tongue pierced for over a year now and love it. unlike what *alandicho* said, i did not get my tongue ring to give better blow jobs...lol i love people who can make offensive generalizations. haha :OD
i had a few adjustments to make in the beginning but that is life! even getting your ears pierced leaves you sore for a day or two. so as far as pain - its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. you just have to be smart and be prepared to care for it like the rest of your body. keep it clean and if it bothers you in anyway you can just slip it out and get rid of it. here is a great site about piercings that everyone should follow...http://www.mnsi.net/~expert/why.htm
oh yah...i have a filling as well. and no, there is no electric shock. :O)

I had my tounge pierced when I was 18 and ya it was cool for a while but soon it chipped my teeth and became a pain in my mouth. I swallowed a barbell once though it did not hurt it was sort of scary. The hole in your tounge eventually streches and you have to go up a size. So the hole just gets bigger. I no longer have the piercing in but my tounge never sealed up. I have a hole in my tounge yrs later. It is not a horrible thing that will cause embarassment just an inconvience in the end. Save your money Hell pierce your ears

i have fillings and i have two tongue rings. I've had them for a while. I chew on my tongue ring barbell and beads all the time. I have never had a "shock" problem with it. I think that it's worth getting done. And even if you end up not liking it, it's not a huge noticable difference when it closes and heals from when you didn't have it pierced.

I have had my tongue pierced for 8 years the only problems I encountered was at first it was not tighten enough and I swallowed a few balls off the end no damage done.
It is a personal thing either you want it or not, I didn't,t feel anything and it was only on the 3rd day that my taste buds were sore but its not that bad. Just have alot of ice or ice-blocks it heals in no time. I Love it

Well if you decide to go through with it go somewhere reputable. Also if you don't like a piercing you can always take it out and the hole will close! The clamps hurt the most. I've had 5 piercings,, but for the sake of keeping my job I've let them all close. lol. Anything is worth it if you want it bad enough.

Just so you know, the original reason why people have their tongue pierce is for giving a better blow*job. If you are not going to use it for this reason, my suggestion is just forget it.

It is definitely not worth it to get your tongue pierced. You're going to regret it when you're like 30.
