I have taught tennis and I played major college tennis. Frankly you should take several lessons (about 3-5 hours overall) in getting the form of the serve down. Then as the other response stated, your best bet is going out to serve by yourself. Get a ball hopper and just practice your serve over and over and over. If you just try going out to serve without assistance, you may be practicing the wrong form and cause yourself an injury down the line. But don't expect just the lessons to improve your serve. You need to take the initiative to improve if you want to get better.

Make sure you are using a continental service grip. Also, on itunes and youtube, there are videos of pros' serves. Watch those, and it will help you learn how they gain pace and spin! In the app store for apple, there's an app called Tennis App (not very original) that's very helpful! It's actually a newsfeed for tennis articles, but if you click on downloads, there are videos of the Bryan Brothers and Jelena Jankovic doing different strokes in slow motion, and you can watch part by part. (Ex. Watching the toss, then the knee bend, etc.)

Take a couple of lessons on how to hit a serve. But then spend lots of time practicing your serve. Years ago, I bought one of those tennis ball baskets that pick up balls. Then I was out to the courts at least twice a week, practicing my serve, probably hitting 100 - 200 serves each time. I worked on making my second serve as fast as my 1st serve and on placement (putting the serve exactly where I wanted it). Now, my serve is the best part of my game. You can do the same.

Please, it is an ever evolving process. You master one aspect go to another to improve. That is why tennis is so great.
