A Uninterupted Power Supply(ups) is a plug in device that contains a battery. When the power goes out, the battery takes over.

There are two basic types

Standby UPS - Battery takes over after power fails, but there may be a slight delay. This is the cheaper, but most common type.

True On-Line UPS - Battery is always providing power, and is reharged continuously, except when power fails, that way there is no delay in power transition. This is the more expensive type.

UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supplies are systems that provide backup power when the main power supply fails. Since power failure is something that affects everyone at one time or another it can be crucial to have contingency plans if power loss is something that can’t be tolerated.

UPS is a unit which keeps a machine running when the power goes out. Many computers have UPS units to keep them running during a blackout.

When the power goes out, the internal batteries of the UPS take over and give power to the computer (or device which is attahced to it). They usually last about 2-3 hours, depending on the load.
