Pineapple also contains bromelin, a protease.
The tongue is mostly made of protein (& water)
The bromelin is dissolving the surface of the tongue.
Don't worry! Pineapple is good for you!
The entire lining of the GI tract is renewed every 3 days anyway - the surface of your tongue is always sloughing off & growing new every day.. Eating fresh pineapples just speeds up the process a bit by taking the top off a little earlier than usual, & so the tongue feels "weird".
Here is a good link from a chemistry-of-everyday life web site.

Citric acid, as many have mentioned. Your tongue is a sensitive organ. It all comes together to create an imense amount of stinging by times. If you're really into pinapple, but are really sensitive to what it does to your tongue, blend it up with other fruits and make smoothies, it's a little less harsh. Also, canned pinapple won't give you the stingy sensation as much as the frsh stuff.

pineapples have a lot of citric acid and if you eat a lot of them that is what happens. I think it is fun as they are my favorite fruits. Some pineapples are more sweet than sour/tangy so they don't have as much acid that plays with your tongue. Enjoy it!!!

Pineapple is acidic and a lot of acid at once time with make your tongue sensitive (your stomach probably won't feel too good either).

Well, because of the acids in the pineapple. It reacts with your taste buds and causes a chemical reaction.

Maybe it's that too much pineapple would make ANYTHING feel weird. I just wouldn't do it... twice.
