Because we fear what is unknown. We fear the unknown because we've no experience in what to expect from it. So we are on our guard. Survival instinct kicks in.

Some people unfortunately, attack what they fear, because it is abnormal, not used to what we do. So we try to get rid of that abnormality, destroy it.
That's what most people do, they don't try to understand.

We are creatures of Habit. So, when things change or are different we feel intimidated. It like having your favorite chair and someone sits in it, you feel uncomfortable sitting in another chair.
